Cliftonhill is a working farm, with 100 acres of arable managed by Archie. There is a growing flock of Suffolk sheep, who originate from the five 'Spice Girls' given to wee Archie 10 years ago. The highlight of their year is the Kelso Tup Sales in September when a new pedigree tup is bought to enhance existing genes...
Dizzy and her daughter Phoebe are friendly labradors who live at Cliftonhill. They miss the matriarch of the family, Ruby pictured below with her grandson and his surrogate mother the stuffed leopard. Ruby recently left us at the ripe old age of 16.
There are four hens - sometimes eggs are available, if the dogs don't find them first! Blondie, pictured above, is currently proudly sitting on a clutch of tiny Bantie eggs in an effort to increase the poultry numbers. Gregory, the cockerel, pictured below, sadly died earlier this year - he'll be missed by many regular visitors to Plum Braes Barn as he had a tendency to beg for crumbs at the French windows at any time of day or night as illustrated in his portrait...
The horses at Edmonston are very friendly - Blossom, her son Bud and full brother Sam - please go and talk to them, but don't go into the field with them, and only feed them apples or carrots. Always make sure kids are accompanied by an adult, and watch your fingers! Down at Cliftonhill, Madam is ridden by Lorna, who also looks after her horse Sally on the farm. Next year Madams daughter Stella will be broken in - she is still too young at the age of three. Sue-Ellen and her daughter Cherie, pictured below, also live on the farm. _______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ |
