______________________________________________________________________________________________________________ The river Eden is a small tributary of the Tweed which meanders through Cliftonhill. Perfect for picnics and paddling, there is nothing to disturb you but perhaps a gray heron or a kingfisher darting up the river in a blaze of colour. Trout and grayling can be caught, and there are plenty minnows.
Roe deer and foxes can often be seen moving between Heron wood and Jocks wood. Greenland is a clump of willows, ideal for birdwatching. The R.S.P.B. counted more than 40 types of bird on Cliftonhill, including several that are on their endangered list. Help us monitor our biodiversity by listing the wildlife you encounter, with date and approximate location, in the nature log - there is one in each cottage.
